2012 Auto Expo - Royal Enfiled showcases Cafe Racer concept

When talking about the oldest two-wheeler manufacturer in the country, the story is endless. Starting from World War I to its merger with Eicher Group in 1991 and now, with effort of the Classic 500 and 350 series, Royal Enfield will showcase a number of custom motorcycles including the cafe racer which may soon be into production and join the current line-up


A Cafe Racer is a type of motorcycle as well as a type of motorcyclist. Both meanings have their roots in the 1960s British counterculture group the Rockers, or the Ton-up boys, although they were also common in Italy, Germany, and other European countries. In Italy, the term refers to the specific motorcycles that were
and are used for short, sharp speed trips from one coffee bar to another.


Royal Enfield Cafe Racer Bike Features:
This motorcycle concept packs in a host of racy features like:
- “Bump Stop” Seat
- Chopped mudguard
- Clip-on bars
- A new twin pod instrument cluster
- Racing Number Plates on sides
- Megaphone muffler
- Retro tail lamp cluster

The Bike is expected to be launched for the international market somewhere in the year 2012. This will then be followed by an Indian Launch later. In India, the Royal Enfield Cafe Racer is expected to sell for about INR 170,ooo when it does get launched sometime after 2012. The engine option will probably be the UCE500 engine currently doing duty in the Classic 500 or might even see a power bump in line with the racy theme of the Cafe Racer.


Here’s what R L Ravichandran, the CEO of Royal Enfield had to say about the Cafe Racer “We expect to unveil this Cafe Racer brand of bikes for the international market by 2012”
