We saw Bajaj Auto gunning straight for the jugular of the world’s largest motorcycle maker, Hero MotoCorp, with a brand new television Ad campaign for the Bajaj Discover 125 DTSi commuter motorcyle, called “chalta nahin, daudta hain . Recently we had reported about Bajaj Auto testing an all new Discover but we didn't know about the engine displacement and here it is .
The speculations have come true and Bajaj Auto has come up with 2012 Edition of their Discover motorcycle which has been named as Discover 100 4G with 4 gears .Apparently the tag ‘4G’ points to the new 4 speed gearbox.
The earlier versions of the Discover series were mated to a 5 speed gear box but this time Bajaj has dumped the 5th gear and has decided to go with four gears for the all new Discover 100. Lets see whether dumping one gear helps its fuel economy and also it would be interesting to see the alteration in the gear ratios so that it can make up for the lack of fifth gear .
This move by Bajaj Auto is aimed to cut down the pricing of their Discover motorcycle so that it can go head on against the Honda Dream Yuga and Suzuki Hayate .We must say Bajaj has taken the pounding by Honda in the recent monthly sales quite seriously.
The four speed gearbox means that the Discover’s price has now been reduced by INR 1,900. The Bajaj Discover 4G is priced at INR 42,000 (ex-showroom Delhi).
Apart from one cog lesser , the engine specifications of the bike remain the same . The Discover 100 retains the 94.3 cc four stroke, single cylinder engine which produces 7.5 BHP of peak power @ 7500 RPM and 7.85 Nm of peak torque @ 5000 RPM ,the bike weighs around 115 kgs .
The competition in the entry level commuter segment is heating up , expect a fierce competition in the entry level segment in the next few months.
