The 150 cc segment is the premier segment for every company . With a wide variety of products available in this segment , its very important for the respective motorcycle company to provide the best deal for the commuter.
Basically in this segment ,a commuter expects a blend of performance and reliability from his machine.
With a lot more varieties of bikes rushing the biking market, it becomes not an easy job to choose a bike. Yes! We have to crack our heads before we choose. Here is a comparison between Yamaha FZ and TVS Apache RTR 160 HyperEdge which can help you go for the best one.
Styling and design:
Coming to style the Yamaha FZ ’s fat tyres and the sculpted tank could attract anyone easily. The Yamaha FZ ’s main core of success is the styling so no wonder that the well proportioned bike boasts of its style. The extroverted tank extensions and the bold and confident middle strip add glamour to this stylish bike.
On the other TVS with its new set of graphics on Apache have done a good job as well . The graphics look distinct and really blend with the bike other than that everything else is borrowed from earlier version of RTR 160. Also to mention is , the Apache RTR 160 HyperEdge is also available with a Rear disc option.
Handling:
It is true that there is nothing that can beat Yamaha FZ when you speak of handling the bike. But Apache with its clip on handle bar matches the nimble handling of FZ too a great extent , to drive an Apache in the city traffic is a heavenly experience. The improved mid-range torque of FZ makes it to handle the city roads fairly. There is no need to shift the gears often in order to get the normal speed of the bike. Even the brilliant make of the bike gives you a better sitting position that challenges other bikes. The major problem with Apache is its gear shifting , it really is not that smooth as it is on Yamaha FZ .
Speed:
It is true that this sporty Apache RTR outperforms Yamaha in the highways. The 2PS of this Apache is more powerful than Apache which gives you the real speed. The sad thing about FZ is that it doesn’t pull enough as you cross 85 kmph. This is where the Apache makes a point. TVS Apache has recently unveiled a new commercial to highlight the speed factor of the bike which makes it "scarily fast" and if you ask whether it really is , then my answer is a definite 'YES'. On a straight stretch Apache RTR 160 HyperEdge can clock 124-137 km/hr whereas a FZ can do 115-118km/hr on the same stretch.
Instrument Cluster :
Yamaha FZ features digital speedometer and tachometer with an orange backlight . The instrument cluster has all the standard indicators and a low oil indicator as well . On the other hand Apache RTR 160 HyperEdge has got a futuristic instrument cluster with a digital speedometer and an analog tachometer. Not only this it has a high speed option and a 0-60 lap timer for race enthusiasts apart from two trip meters . So in this department Apache is way ahead of the FZ.
Stability:
On the other hand one should note the Apache’s engine, the engine is not so smooth and vibrates a lot. Another important thing is the performance of the tyres. Though the tyres look good enough, when it comes to performance, the tyres don’t promise you stability. Especially on high speed curves the stability of the bike is questionable!! Oh Beware!
Regarding the braking department , Apache features roto petal discs which provide razor sharp breaking and provide better heat dissipation than that of the disc brakes featured in FZ.
If TVS would have got good tyres, it would pushed Yamaha out of sight. The muscular tank and the bold head lamp with wide read tyres makes Yamaha stand the market. Believe me! Yamaha can promise you confidence while turning at high speed.
Bikoholic Verdict :
If you ask for my personal opinion I would ask you to go for TVS Apache RTR 160 HyperEdge. It is mainly because of its performance and also it comes at a lower price than the Yamaha FZ .Once you ride an Apache and feel the roar of the engine especially the exhaust note will drive you crazy , you will definitely want to drive it again and again. This doesn't make the Yamaha FZ a loser , it is a true performer as well.
Choices vary from person to person depending on their needs and expectations from their machine.
So , make a Better choice.
